Alpha Kappa Alpha Iota Gamma Chapter Ivy Lead Educational Fund Scholarship
On June 8, 1974, fifteen women decided to charter a chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated on Northeastern's campus. Following the legacy of their chartering sisters, the Iota Gamma chapter has solidified its place as an essential figure in both the Greek life and Black communities at Northeastern. Celebrating the legacy of the Iota Gamma Chapter Book Award, the Iota Gamma Chapter presents the new Ivy Lead Educational Fund, a scholarship which will be given to current undergraduate students at Northeastern University. Our scholarships would provide financial assistance to Black or African-American identifying students preferentially, to support their ability to stay enrolled at Northeastern and help alleviate worry about their financial ability to complete the semester. Black families have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Iota Gamma Chapter would like to give back to students within our community who are in need.
Help the Iota Gamma Chapter raise $3,000 to give financial support to students at Northeastern University!
The Iota Gamma Chapter has engaged in community service initiatives that greatly benefit the Greater Boston community. Members of The Iota Gamma Chapter has spent many weekends at the Edgar P. Benjamin Healthcare Center, the only Black-owned nursing home in Massachusetts, bringing joy to its elderly residents. Our interactions with the residents at the Benjamin Center include conversations on life and health, bingo, card games, and much more. The Iota Gamma Chapter has also dedicated time to the Mary McLeod Bethune Institute for young women and programs for pregnant teens and teen mothers such as Aswalos House and The Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Center. Thank you for helping us ensure the future success of our fellow Northeastern students!
